Daytime Royalty Interview with Arianne Zucker

Earlier today Daytime Royalty spoke to Arianne Zucker. See what she says about behind the scenes changes, her character’s relationship with Daniel, and Nicole’s baby’s future.

WIll the baby live?
Isn’t that a great question?

Do you have a great answer?
My great answer is keep watching.

Right now, Nicole is sleeping with Daniel and pregnant with EJ’s baby. Will there be more of that coming up?
With Daniel and/or EJ? Well, what I will say is that it’s such a wonderful sort of season finale right now. I will say that the adventure continues. And I will say selfishly from my character’s point of view that this character is written so great, and there’s always something interesting for the writers to write, and there’s always a turn. I feel like every time I pick up a script, I gasp. So you will have to continue to watch because that was such a great cliff hanger for us. There’s some great stuff happening afterwards. Unfortunately, I can’t give anything away.

What has the most recent change in writers meant for your character?
For any actor you always hope that a writer will write for you. I feel pretty fortunate that since I’ve been back on the show...there’s always that chance that you won’t get written for, and I feel like NIcole is one of those characters that stirs up a lot of things. If you have everything happy and perfect on a show, then you don’t really have a show. I think she’s one of those characters that adds levels to the show for characters that certainly need them, or even for herself. I always hope that’s seen by the new writers. Change is always good. Change is so scary, but it happens all the time whether you want it or not, so you just have to take it in the most proactive way you can. New writers are always a great thing because it’s always a new beginning.

We’ve heard Eric is returning. Can you tell us anything about that?
I don’t think so. Usually when it’s not my character...just nah. Probably not. I’ll wait on that one.

Does the hair department make decisions about your cut and color, or do you make those decisions?
Generally that’s me. If you’re drastically changing your hair color, or if I wanted to cut my hair short I usually will ask because they do have a certain idea of how they want the characters to be. But you can adjust your hairstyle for sure. But if I decided to go with a buzz cut, I would definitely have to ask. I wouldn’t be able to just do that. If we’re in the middle of a show and you decide to get your hair cut, it looks bad for continuity. We’re sensitive to that.

What can we expect for Nicole when the show returns in two weeks?
Well, speaking for my own character I just think it’s kind of like what I said before. I’ve always had amazing scripts. There are some great twists coming up, obviously that has to do with the baby, and there are very strong issues that appear. How’s that?

What’s your opinion on Nicole’s relationship with Daniel while pregnant?
You know, interestingly enough, there are a lot of men out there who like pregnant women. I think there’s more than that. There’s two people here who come from very similar situations and have made very similar choices. He’s not the most perfect person in the world, and Nicole certainly is not. There’s a certain amount of honesty between the two. They certainly have a good time together. They certainly enjoy each other’s company. Nicole’s got a life growing inside of her, and here’s this man that’s willing to be with her regardless of physically what she looks like and also that there’s another being that if he does choose to stay with her, he wants to take care of it. That’s just how quickly she automatically goes to “Oh, I’ve got this guy, and he’s going to be with us forever. Here’s the white picket fence and the little golden retriever.” She automatically goes there. I think for her, she’s ready to try maybe to make a better life for herself. You know she’s not going to. Don’t worry there. You know there’s going to be a twist. She’s a self sabotager and a survivor. That’s what she does. But right now she’s in a very difficult situation that she has created for herself, and this person is standing by her. What better situation could you have?

When there are these big changes, what is the atmosphere on set like?
I always have a good time here. I am so appreciative of my job. I love everyone I work with. I feel like it’s really good. People have their good and bad days, but I am annoyingly happy when I come to work. We have an amazing crew. We’ve all been here a long time, and it’s sort of the nature of the beast. Actors are gypsies. We come and go. So for us it’s sad and great all at the same time. I know for viewers it’s a little tougher, because someone ends up leaving the show that you love and it’s a more difficult situation because you have a different attachment. You’re attached to Austin, where Patrick is off doing his music and making this great life for himself. It’s different for me because I know what he’s doing, so it’s a different connection for us. I think generally we just continue to maintain a positive attitude if you can. It’s a great work place. I’ve been here for fourteen years, and it’s just like family. It’s a wonderful place to be; it’s a wonderful place to work.

Have you seen evidence that fan feedback affects storyline?
I think it does sometimes, yeah, when people are really rooting for certain characters. I’m sure there’s a number that comes in, and they’ll say we’ve got a lot about this storyline, and the writers will say “Alright, let’s turn the storyline this way and see what happens.” So yeah. I think the fans do have some power in a sense. Not complete, of course.

Love Ari, but what is the point of even doing an interview if this is all you're going to say?

Ari, stop bullshitting...you were so much better giving interviews before.

Nothing...not even the tease to come back was good.

Excuse me if I am wrong. But usually when you give an interview isn't the purpose to make people want to watch your character and get invested in their story? From the sound of this I will be continuing to give Nicole the Ff treatment. Sorry AZ!

It's funny because we got the email saying Ari was excited about her upcoming story so naturally, we all probably asked her about it. I know I did.

Wow, I almost disliked her for a minute reading that. Still love her! But that was a waste of your DR's time.

I didn't care for her response re: Eric. I hope it didn't come out the way it reads.

All I got from it is that she doesn't know what to say about other characters because she doesn't know what other actors have already said. The whole interview put me off though. She shouldn't have even done it.

I don't really think Ari chose to do the interview and I don't think she was thrilled that she couldn't say anything. However, her tone was more positive this time than when we interview her last winter...even if her answers weren't.

#SorryNotSorry

I love that they make people available to web outlets, but it's a half-assed PR strategy if they don't give them anything to talk about.

It will be posted soon. I have to write it as a feature - I wish I could use the Q&A format, it's so much easier!
